The Hall
Affectionately known as "the south end hall," the Galiano Community Hall has a long history in the relatively short time of Galiano's colonial settlement. It has continued to play a central role in Galiano's daily life, as a place to meet, organise, and celebrate, and hosting the arts through plays, screenings, art and craft shows, and workshops.
The Hall is rented by many community members and groups, but has three primary tenants: the Galiano Players Society, regularly staging plays and performances; the Galiano Pre-school Society, occupying the large play room downstairs and hosting Playgroup; and the Access to Media Education Society, with a small office in the back.
The Hall can be rented by anyone as a venue for special events or on a regular basis. It has a full theatrical stage, large projection screen, a space for childcare, and a professional kitchen. There is capacity for 100 people, or about 9% of the island's population.
The ongoing growth of the Hall finds it as a base for community development projects, like the Galiano Community Food Program and continual improvement, like the new playground.
