We lived in Cheshire England, the war was on, the war started in ’39. Food was rationed, we were only allowed so much per week per person. We were only allowed one egg per week per person. The food that was rationed for families was generally termed as fats which was butter or margarine or lard plus sugar and meat.
M: When you were a child, how did you get your food?
E: The local butcher, and we had a garden, and we had chickens, so that's about it.
M: How did you keep your food?
E: Well, there weren't any fridges, when I was a child. We had a cold pantry, usually in the shade at the back of the house. It had long, sometimes marble slabs, and that's where we kept milk, and fish, and everything.

BB: When you were a child how did you get your food?
LB: We caught a lot of fish. We also got clams and oyster from the beach at the North End of Galiano.
We hunted deer and bought other things at the North End Store. We went to Chemainus by boat where we would buy a whole wheel of cheese.
BB: When you were young how did you store your food?
Remember when this was held? Last spring seems a long time ago but we have made great strides on our cook book. "Food
Forever - Galiano Cooks".... Thanks to all those who did interviews, took photos and did illustrations and to those who are now putting the book together. More with next picture
The previous 2 photos's posted are 1. Elizabeth Latta teaching about food saving and 2 Elizabeth Latta describing how peas climb. The next few will come as I find more text.
Looks like a great day when this picture was taken. It seems that with each picture I have to write 25 words, will try to get more info on photos next time.
